fisher on the river

Originally built by famed architect George Fisher, this Riverside neighborhood gem was well maintained throughout its 40-year existence—until it sustained extensive hurricane damage in 2017. Our client engaged us to renovate and restore the home, which presented an enticing challenge.

We felt a real kinship with Fisher, who has since passed away, while working on the restoration of his former family residence. The home is one of the few examples of modern architecture in the neighborhood, and the clean lines and uncomplicated design stand out in the community.

We gutted the entire structure to the studs and added a new central staircase, letting us open up the flow for modern living while still preserving the timeless good bones of the home. The lines of the facade were restored to more closely resemble the original proportions proposed in 1978, creating a lighter front assembly that floats in front of the river-facing facade.

ZINN Architecture and Interiors designed and oversaw every aspect of this careful restoration, including the interior furnishings. Going far beyond simple renovation and repair, the project respects and celebrates the character of not only a house, but a fellow architect’s labor of love. Learn more about this project.
