Alewife: Craft Beer Haven in Jacksonville

When Alewife embarked on their mission to introduce Jacksonville to the world of craft beer, they knew they needed a space as unique and compelling as their brews. Working with a modest budget, they partnered with ZINN to develop a design strategy that would make a big impact. The result is an award-winning beer store and bar that embodies a modern industrial aesthetic while celebrating the building's historic character.

Our design concept centered around the creative use of repurposed materials. Shipping containers and salvaged wood pallets became key elements, allowing us to create a distinct and cost-effective space. By concentrating services in a targeted work area, we maximized efficiency without sacrificing style. The raw, untouched shell of the historic building provided the perfect backdrop for this industrial-chic design, creating a sense of authenticity and urban cool.

One of the most innovative aspects of the project was the use of a single shipping container, cleverly opened up to create two distinct spaces. This resourceful approach not only saved on costs but also added a unique architectural feature. We also designed comfortable and stylish seating using repurposed wooden pallets, further enhancing the industrial aesthetic and creating a welcoming environment for patrons.

Alewife's large, double-wide doors offer convenient access for customers looking to grab a quick six-pack, a feature that has since become a model for other businesses in the surrounding area.
