As a small business trying to break into Jacksonville’s craft beer market, Alewife commissioned ZINN to create a design strategy that would make a large impact with a modest budget. Utilizing repurposed shipping containers and salvaged wood pallets, the design concentrates services in a targeted work area and uses the raw space of the building’s historic shell to tap into a modern industrial design aesthetic.

The award-winning design resulted in a popular beer store and bar, featuring huge double-wide doors that enable customers to park nearby and run in and grab beer to go, which turned into a model for the rest of the surrounding retail. Creative cost-saving measures included using just one shipping container and opening it up to create two spaces. ZINN also designed seating using wooden pallets for customers to enjoy the onsite bar.
